This is not an official GSUSA Badge. This is an interpretation by The Badge Archive on how to combine the requirements for Junior Space Science Investigator, Cadette Space Science Researcher, Senior Space Science Expert, and Ambassador Space Science Master.
What is this badge about?
Learn about constellations and star classification and do a star hunt, a visible and invisible light experiment, share info about telescope tech, be a light pollution advocate, understand Earth rotation and visually see the size/distance of planets. Then Explore alien worlds and NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, before doing a deeper dive on one topic and sharing your discoveries.
Our Summary* of Requirements:
- Do a light experiment to learn how eyes see light and how your pupils adapt that explores both visible and invisible light.
- Learn how scientists determine the distances of objects in the Universe.
- Learn about light pollution and how to help.
- Explore the technology that makes telescopes and help others understand about telescope technology.
- Explore stars and constellations.
- Explore the stars in a new way by learning how scientist classify them.
- Learn about tools used to explore stars, then look at stars with an aid and find several different types of objects in the sky.
- Understand the full rotation of the Earth around the sun is one year and how the Earth’s position creates seasons.
- Do an activity to help visually see the size of planets and/or their distance.
- Explore the possibility of life beyond Earth and engage in exciting activities to learn more about alien worlds with one activity.
- Dive into NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
- Do one activity to explore deeper in one aspect.
- Share your discoveries with others in one way.
