It has been months since our last major update in March. Between the end of the school year, the start of summer, and family vacations, our family has been navigating the usual seasonal busy time. Beyond real-life schedules, the bulk of our silence is due to extensive behind-the-scenes work on The Badge Archive.
We are currently in the process of redoing over 865 Archival Entries and 30+ country facts to comply with copyright and Terms of Use regulations we are now aware of.
Important Compliance Updates to GSUSA Pages

Our highest priority is ensuring the website is fully compliant with all legal regulations to avoid any risk of being taken down. To strictly adhere to Terms of Use, we have completely revamped the GSUSA sections.
We are removing all official GSUSA images and official requirement text.
We are removing the online booklet links (available in VTK) previously available. This is a Terms of Use violation we had not been aware of when we first put them on our website. We are planning a different method that will be compliant with copyright and Terms of Use with a new “Booklet and VTK Information” link that will be available in the future.
Our redesigned pages direct users to external resources, such as the Girl Scout Shop, GSUSA Badge Explorer, or Scout’s Honor Wiki, to find the official requirements.
Graphics Updates

We are updating the custom graphics for the GSUSA pages which required over 600 new images. We’ve created new button level images that are more original. And we’re creating new images for Scouting America Cub Scouts and American Heritage Girls.
- Original Artwork: We’re avoiding using AI-generated images for badge image representations and minimizing the use of AI rendering. Our focus is on original, human-crafted designs to ensure our assets are not close copies of protected material.
- Backgrounds: Images that previously floated on white backgrounds have been updated with backgrounds.
- New Level Buttons: To prevent any potential cease and desist letters from GSUSA, we have replaced the traditional badge shapes previously used to indicate different scouting levels. While simple shapes are generally not copyrightable, their association with the brand poses a risk. We have designed new, original buttons for each level featuring custom illustrations and grade levels.
New Layout Features

During April and May, we ran a full test design using retired Daisy badges. We used the Daisy 3 Cheers Journey to integrate activities from our Youth Activity Archive, allowing us to determine the necessary graphics and optimal page layouts for future updates. As these updates roll out, you will notice somlayout changes.
- Activity Choices: Badges feature a broken-down list separating “Required Activities” from optional choices. We will have clickable links that will direct you to images and summaries on the Youth Activity Archive for each bold category, but that will be after we finish all these page updates!
- Available Troop Meeting Plans: Pages now list external meeting plans, noting the number of meetings, their format, and duration when provided by the source.
Project Roadmap
We have finished all updated graphics for Daisy, Brownie, and Junior levels. Below is the scheduled order of operations for our upcoming website updates:
- GSUSA Juniors to Daisies: Updating Junior badge pages now, working down through the Daisy level.
- Cub Scouts (K-3rd): Pausing GSUSA updates to build out Adventure pages and accompanying graphics for Kindergarten through 3rd grade in Cub Scouts.
- GSUSA Cadettes to Ambassadors: Returning to GSUSA to update Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador pages.
- Scouting America: Creating Merit Badge pages and graphics.
- American Heritage Girls (AHG): Building AHG activity lists. To respect the organization’s apparent dislike of any public posting of their requirements, we plan to only provide activity lists to help leaders complete the badges.
- World Thinking Day 2027: We are hoping to finish the country facts redesign so they are available for GSUSA troops preparing for World Thinking Day next year.
