What is this badge about?

Learn about horseback riding and safety, how to care for a horse and go on a ride.

Our Summary* of Requirements:

  1. Learn three things (Western vs. English riding style, types of horse equipment, AND best riding gear for you) from an expert (equestrian store employee, riding stable employee, Girl Scout camp equestrian, horse ranch employee, trainer, groomer, workshop).
  2. Brush and feed a horse with an expert (groomer, trainer, veterinarian, OR Girl Scout horseback riding camp).
  3. Learn the way to do four things (lead your horse, mount/dismount, tie a horse, saddle AND bridle a horse) with an expert (horseback riding camp, lessons at riding stable, OR local horseback-riding expert).
  4. Practice four things (coax a horse into motion, use reins to steer, turn/stop a horse, AND what is good form) with an expert (horseback riding camp, lessons at riding stable, OR local horseback-riding expert).
  5. Go on a horseback ride and do three things (walk, trot, AND control your horse’s speed) with an expert (horseback riding camp, lessons at riding stable, OR local horseback-riding expert).

    • Learn the difference between Western & English riding style, types of horse equipment, AND best riding gear for you.
    • Brush and groom a horse.
    • Learn how to lead your horse, mount/dismount, tie a horse, AND saddle and bridle a horse.
    • Practice coaxing a horse into motion, using reins to steer, turning/stopping a horse, AND holding a good form.
    • Go on a horseback ride and do walking, trotting, AND controlling your horse’s speed.
