Yes – 2011 Is the current GSUSA badge
These are simply suggestions and may take some creativity and extra steps to earn all the badges in various levels.
A Multi-Level Troop will need to do extra steps when earning different badges across levels. It depends on how many requirements overlap. Some will only have one or two matching requirements.
GSUSA has an Award Log for each level with a comparison table for all badges in similar themes. Not all badges in the same theme have correlating requirements – you basically have to earn two separate badges. We recommend a Fun Patch in that case.
Badges with correlating requirements means you can do an activity that counts towards different badges in the different levels.
Citizen Scientist
The Think Like a… Journey sets often have completely different project designated and cannot be done concurrently while with keeping the technical requirements. Many multi-level troop leaders will pick the level that is appropriate or interesting for their troop. The concept of doing the projects is typically the same for all levels, just that the projects increase in difficulty for each level of growth. All might do the a SciStarter project, but in different ways, or they do the same SciStarter project, but you have more observation activities to hit all the different requirements.
Below is a list of what exactly is different in each level for the technical requirements for each level. Leaders can choose what projects to do in order for all levels to at least hit all the technical requirements for their level to earn their badge.
Badges that correlate from other levels
- Daisy – Daisy Think Like A Citizen Scientist – do hands-on activities to learn how to make observations and collect data
- Brownie – Brownie Think Like a Citizen Science – 2 observation games and a SciStarter project
- Junior – Junior Think Like a Citizen Scientist – 2 observation games and a SciStarter project
- Cadette – Cadette Think Like a Citizen Scientist – make observations about your environment, create a community field guide and a SciStarter project
- Senior – Senior Think Like a Citizen Scientist – make observations about your environment, design a way to test a hypothesis and a SciStarter project
- Ambassador – Ambassador Think Like a Citizen Scientist – 3 observation sessions of a citizen science project from SciStarter and collect data from you community

Programmer
The Think Like a… Journey sets often have completely different project designated and cannot be done concurrently while with keeping the technical requirements. Many multi-level troop leaders will pick the level that is appropriate or interesting for their troop. The concept of doing the projects is typically the same for all levels, just that the projects increase in difficulty for each level of growth. All might do the same computational thinking activities but try and keep it challenging, but you might make a compromise on what learning activity you do and only briefly touch on the other subjects. Or you all the same moderate level on the computational thinking activities, but spend more time on the learning activities to hit all the different level requirements.
Below is a list of what exactly is different in each level for the technical requirements for each level. Leaders can choose what projects to do in order for all levels to at least hit all the technical requirements for their level to earn their badge.
- Daisy – Daisy Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do 3 computational thinking activities: (Building a Foundation, Happy Maps, and Plant a Seed).
- Brownie – Brownie Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do 3 computational thinking activities: (paper programming, functional suncatcher, rapid prototyping with kites/paper airplanes or paper snowflakes).
- Junior – Junior Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do 3 computational thinking activities: (Tangram algorithms; create mad libs and craft algorithm suncatchers; and rapid prototyping with kites/paper airplanes or paper snowflakes).
- Cadette – Cadette Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do Do 3 computational thinking activities: (computer or not lesson, create a card-sorting algorithm, and create user-centered design).
- Senior – Senior Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do Do 3 computational thinking activities: (create rules for how to stack cards to share messages and learn about encoding information, Building Block Algorithm, and test a user-centered design).
- Ambassador – Ambassador Think Like a Programmer – Learn Computational Thinking and do Do 3 computational thinking activities: (binary message-sending machine, minimum card algorithm, and design a user-centered design app to solve a problem)
Engineer
The Think Like a… Journey sets often have completely different project designated and cannot be done concurrently while with keeping the technical requirements. Many multi-level troop leaders will pick the level that is appropriate or interesting for their troop. The concept of doing the projects is typically the same for all levels, just that the projects increase in difficulty for each level of growth. When using this technique, you might find one project from Brownie, and one from Junior or just pick one level works for your troop. It is not technically the correct way to do so but works very well when you have a multi-level troop that needs a journey done together.
Below is a list of what exactly is different in each level for the technical requirements for each level. Leaders can choose what projects to do in order for all levels to at least hit all the technical requirements for their level to earn their badge.
- Daisy – Daisy Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 hands-on design challenges: (build a Fairy House, a car powered by air, and a way to get across a canyon).
- Brownie – Brownie Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 design thinking activities: (assistive device, water collection device, ball launching device).
- Junior – Junior Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 design thinking activities: (paper structures, an emergency shelter, and earthquake proof build).
- Cadette – Cadette Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 design thinking activities: (life vest for a dog, a camp cabin, and an elephant prosthetic leg).
- Senior – Senior Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 design thinking activities: (harmless can holder, a kinetic sculpture, and an assistive device for the elderly).
- Ambassador – Ambassador Think Like an Engineer – Learn the Engineering Design Process and do 3 design thinking activities: (animal enrichment product, a zip line course, and mobility equipment).
