2011 Animal Badges – Multi Level

Yes – 2011 Is the current GSUSA badge

Earning badges in a Multi-Level Troop may require extra steps, depending on how many requirements overlap. Some badges have only one or two matching requirements, while others may need entirely separate activities.

GSUSA’s Award Log includes a comparison table for badges with similar themes, but not all have correlating requirements. When requirements don’t align, consider earning two separate badges or awarding a Fun Patch instead.

For badges with correlating requirements, a single activity can count toward multiple badges across levels. The suggestions on The Badge Archive are our best effort to align badges across levels

We’ve organized them into general themes—some featuring multiple badges and others with just one line of linked badges.

D/B Correlating Steps

The Same

  • Both levels require learning about an animal (Daisy Animal Observer: Pick an animal and observe them in person OR online to learn more about them; Junior Animal Habitats: Watch (live or on video) wild animal(s) and learn how the live, sleep, eat, AND communicate.).
  • Both levels require learning about animals (Daisy Animal Observer: Daisy Animal Observer: Mimic animals by either playing camouflage hide and seek OR animal charades; Junior Animal Habitats: Pick one habitat environment and learn about the animals in it (adaptation, food, OR shelter) OR take a lot of animal pictures and try sorting them into groups (how they look, care for their young, move, etc.) and see if it matches how scientists group animals.).
  • Both level require learning about habitats (Daisy Animal Observer: Look for animal signs either by looking for animal tracks outdoors OR looking up animal habitats; Junior Animal Habitats: Learn what shelter animals take in their habitat and draw, sketch, build a model, OR write a story about it AND Learn about endangered habitats (Artic Circle, Gulf Coast, OR Amazon), the animals in them, and how people are trying to help.).

The Differences

  • Junior Animal Habitats has one extra requirement: Help (bring awareness, clean) a habitat (woods, stream, beach, OR park) OR Create a shelter (toad, bat, bird, bee house, OR butterfly/bee garden).

Note Brownie Pets only correlates on one requirement: Learn how three different kinds of pets communicate their feelings

Recommendation:

  • Follow a Junior level Animal Habitat (such as Archived Copy of Mtg1 and Mtg2 from GSRV (River Valley) – Original: Mtg 1 and Mtg 2) and it will cover all requirements for Daisy Animal Observer.

Recommendation:

  • There is overlap in themes for Eco Trekker and Eco Camper. Cadettes need to learn about their own topic and then make a make an eco hike for the Juniors to learn about it which may require Cadettes to meet separately in a small group while the Juniors do a different activity.
