Have you ever walked in wet mud or soft sand? If you look behind you, you can see the shape of your shoes. Those are your footprints!

When you use a tablet, a computer, or a phone, you leave a different kind of footprint. It is called a digital footprint. A digital footprint is an invisible trail of everything you do on the internet. You add to your digital footprint every time you:

• Play an online game.
• Watch a funny video.
• Click on a picture.
• Talk to a friend on a screen.

How Can You Show Your Digital Footprint?

Even though your digital footprint is invisible, you can use art and math to show what it looks like!

Many like to use graphics and drawings. You can draw a giant footprint on a piece of paper. Inside the footprint, you can draw logos or pictures of the games and videos you click on the most.

You can also make a chart with blocks. Stack five blocks if you played games for five minutes, and stack two blocks if you watched videos for two minutes. This chart shows what takes up the most space in your footprint.

Keeping Your Footprint Clean

Just like you want to keep mud out of the house, you want to keep your digital footprint safe and clean. You can do this by being kind online and always asking a grown-up before you click on something new or share a picture.
