Info Needed for Badge Requirements: They observe and talk about what the bugs are doing without touching or disturbing them. This activity builds observation skills and curiosity about nature.
Items Needed:
- Access to a device with internet
- Paper and pencil for note-taking
- Optional: printed note sheet with prompts
Instructions (Total Time: 30–35 minutes)
- Watch Bug Videos (15–18 minutes)
- Scouts choose and watch 3 bug videos
- Use videos that show bugs moving, eating, building, or interacting
- Suggested videos:
- Take Notes (10–12 minutes)
- Scouts write down for each of the three bugs they choose:
- What type of bug they think it is
- What the bug is doing
- Why they think the bug is doing that
- Scouts write down for each of the three bugs they choose:
- Share and Reflect (5–6 minutes)
- Scouts share one bug they watched and something interesting they noticed
- Optional: draw the bug or write one fun fact about it
