New Body Image Theme Badges (One Per Level)

Each age level received a unique badge to support movement, mindfulness, and body positivity:

We have an Activity List, Basic Meeting Plan(s), and At Home Overviews created for these four on The Badge Archive.

• Daisy – Fun With Movement
• Brownie – Me Time
• Junior – Uniquely Us 
• Cadette – Outside the Mirror

We’re still working on these two on The Badge Archive!

• Senior – Mind, Body, Me
• Ambassador – Cheers for Every Body

New Leadership Awards: Pins Replace Journey-Based Badges

In a shift away from the Journey model (retiring 10/1/2026), GSUSA released new leadership pins:

• Take Action Pin
  • Focused on local issues
  • Must link to a badge already earned
  • Requires identifying root cause through research
  • Only earned once, not every level and only available to J/C/S/A
• Global Action Pin
  • Linked to a UN Sustainable Development Goal
  • Same format as Take Action with global framing
  • Only earned once, not every level and only available to J/C/S/A
• True North Pin
  • Similar style, but focused on personal values/goals
  • No research required
  • Can be earned up to three times, depending on age group: Juniors, Cadettes, and Senior/Ambassdor.

Each requires significant planning and a project, a bit beyond the quicker TAPs previously seen. Check out the details on our New GSUSA Leadership Awards post.

Mentorship Pin Updates

Youth-led leadership received more structure and observation-focused steps:

• Junior Aide Pin
  • Plan one activity after observing younger scouts
• Program Aide Pin
  • Lead one activity and one full meeting after observing younger scouts
• Volunteer-in-Training (VIT) Pin
  • Lead two meetings, with the second being scout-led, after observing younger scouts
• CIT I & CIT II Pins
  • Council training still required for CIT pins

These changes emphasize prep and youth engagement over check-the-box activities. Check out the details on our New GSUSA Leadership Awards post.

Trailblazer and Mariner Pins

There are new pins for Trailblazers and Mariners. GSUSA added Trailblazing and Mariner specialized troops to the program in 2020. You can read about the history of Trailblazing and Mariners on Girl Scout History Project page.

GSUSA has not released any specific announcement about these pins. They show up as awards in the new 2025 GSUSA Award Log. In the Girl Scout Shop, it simply states “Girl Scout Trailblazers/Mariners may wear it in place of the membership pin on the insignia tab, centered above the heart on the left side of the uniform.”

But there are requirements for both.

Trailblazer Pin on the GSUSA Shop states: “Earn this pin by completing the following requirements within the first year of becoming a Trailblazer: 

• Know and recite the Girl Scout Promise
• Know and recite the Girl Scout Law 
• Complete the first level of three (3) concentrations including: hiking, camping, stewardship, survivorship, and adventure sports. 

Mariner Pin on the GSUSA Shop states: “Earn this pin by completing the following requirements within the first year of becoming a Girl Scout Mariner:

• Know and recite the Girl Scout Promise
• Know and recite the Girl Scout Law
• Complete option A or B described below
  • A. Mariners ON or IN water
    • Acquire basic swimming skills by swimming fifty (50) yards using any stroke, and treading water fully clothed for three (3) minutes.
    • Select a watercraft or water sport.
  • B. Mariners NEAR water
    • Learn basic skills to prevent drowning.
    • Select a focus area, such as marine or aquatic ecology.
    • Study and learn the safety protocol required for the focus area.”

Quiet Retirements: Badges Missing From New Logs

GSUSA has not formally announced these retirements, but they’re absent from the updated Award Logs, and likely gone for good:

• My Best Self –  Brownie
• Staying Fit – Junior
• Leadership in Action (LiA) – Cadette
• Eating for You (formerly Eating for Beauty) – Cadette
• Women’s Health – Senior

Also slated for retirement on 10/1/2026:

• All Journey badges
• Global Action Award badges
• Journey Summit pins

Expect these to disappear from shops and VTK soon and plan accordingly.
