- How Much Water?
First, Read the Information You Need:
Before you can get water ready for an emergency, you need to know how much water you need. Read the simple instructions on the CDC website to find out.
Second, Choose an Option:
|You just need to find out how much water you need for everyone living in your home to last for 3 days. |
How much water does one person need?
Add that amount for each person in your family. This is your total Family Daily Water Amount.
Then add that Family Daily Water Amount 3 times. This is how much your family needs for 3 days.

Find out how much water you need for everyone living in your home to last for 3 days.
Now you need a plan on how you will store that much water.
Will you always keep that much on hand, or will you fill empty storage containers with tap water when you are warned there is an emergency coming up?
Hurricanes you have plenty of warning, but Earthquakes or main water line breaks happen without warning. You may not have any access to tap water.
