Fulfills Step 2 of GSUSA Bugs badge requirements.
Items Needed:
- One sheet of plain paper (any color)
- Scissors
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
Instructions (Total Time: 10–15 minutes)
- Fold the Paper (3–4 minutes)
- Fold the paper in half lengthwise
- Cut along the fold to make two strips for bug body and wings
- Create the Bug Body (3–4 minutes)
- Take one strip and fold it accordion-style (zig-zag fold) to make a bumpy body
- Draw legs, eyes, antennae, and a face on either end
- Add Wings (4–5 minutes)
- Use the second strip to cut out simple wing shapes (two large oval shapes or one butterfly-style shape)
- Decorate with bright patterns, spots, or stripes
- Slide the wings between folds of the bug body, no glue needed if tucked tightly
- Extra Ideas (Optional)
- Add a name and bug type: Is it a beetle, butterfly, or something imaginary?
- Fold a tiny scrap of paper into feet or antennae and wedge them in, too
