Info Needed for Badge Requirements: Bug homes keep insects safe, help them find food, and protect their young. Homes can be made from silk, mud, leaves, or hidden places like soil or wood. Bugs use them to rest, raise eggs, or trap prey.
Items Needed:
- Play-Doh in multiple colors
- Clean table or workspace
- Optional: bug reference photos or drawings
Instructions (Total Estimated Time: 35 minutes):
- Choose a Bug (3–5 minutes)
- Scouts think of a bug that interests them (e.g., ant, butterfly, bee, beetle)
- Optional: show simple pictures to spark ideas
- Plan the Bug’s Home (5–7 minutes)
- Scouts imagine what the bug’s home might look like
- Examples: tunnels, cocoons, hives, webs, wood holes
- Build the Home (15–18 minutes)
- Scouts use Play-Doh to create their bug home
- Encourage creativity with color and shape
- Homes can be realistic or imagined
- Share and Reflect (5–6 minutes)
- Scouts show their bug homes to the group
- Each scout shares what bug they chose and why they made the home that way
