Info Needed for badge requirements: For a secure password: Use the VTK Password Checklist by GSUSA. Never reuse passwords across accounts. Change your password if you think it’s been hacked. Hackers can crack passwords in two main ways: Dictionary Attack: Hackers use lists of common passwords to guess quickly. Brute Force Attack: Hackers try every possible combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Longer passwords with mixed characters take much more time to crack.
Items Needed
- VTK Password Checklist by GSUSA
- Strips of paper with pre-written passwords (both good and bad)
- Two buckets or containers, one labeled “SAFE” and one labeled “UNSAFE”
Instructions
- Divide scouts into two or more teams and line them up for a relay race.
- Place the strips of paper with passwords in a pile at the starting line.
- Position the “SAFE” and “UNSAFE” buckets at the other end of the race area.
- One at a time, a scout picks a password from the pile, runs to the buckets, and decides if it’s a safe or unsafe password by dropping it into the correct container.
- After their turn, they run back and tag the next teammate to repeat the process.
- Once all passwords have been sorted, gather the group to review each container. Discuss why certain passwords are safe or unsafe using examples from the checklist.
