GSUSA Two-Factor Authentication

Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Cadette Cybersecurity Basics badge requirements.

Info Needed for badge requirements: Two-factor authentication is like having two locks on your account. You need something you know (like your password) and something you have (like a code sent to your phone). It keeps your account safer because even if someone guesses your password, they wouldn’t have your phone to get the code. Plus, the code changes with a short time period, so it’s really hard for hackers to break in!

Items Needed

  • Pre-cut VTK Trivia Cards from GSUSA (one set for each group of 2-5 scouts)
  • Whiteboard or chart paper and marker
  • Stopwatch or timer

Instructions

  1. Form teams of 2-5 scouts.
  2. Place Trivia Cards with names (answers) and six-digit codes on a table for each team to share.
  3. Explain how responses will work:
    • When the leader reads out a trivia name, teams search for the card with the correct name and raise their hands to respond.
    • The first team where everyone is raising their hand gets to call out the six-digit code.
    • If they call out the correct code, their team earns a point. If they’re wrong, the next team that raised their hand gets a chance to answer.
  4. The leader reads out a trivia name every 30 seconds. Teams search for the card, respond by raising their hand, and answer with the code.
  5. Track points for each team on the whiteboard or chart paper to keep the game fun and competitive.
