What is this badge about?

Use a telescope, learn about the atmosphere, planets, weather, and pollution (air, light, or climate change), explore flight, and then create an art piece.

Our Summary* of requirements:

  1. Use a telescope AND do one activity (identify 10 constellations & 8 noticeable stars, OR host a star party for other scouts) OR take 5 photographs of the sky in different colors AND describe the science behind the colors you see.
  2. Learn about the atmosphere, planets, and weather (Chart the layers of the Earth’s atmosphere, take a guided tour at a planetarium/astronomical observatory, OR track the weather for one day and analyze it).
  3. Do an activity that explores flight (Interview an air traffic controller OR tour an air traffic facility, build a model plane, rocket, or space exploration vehicle, OR research NASA and follow a current space mission for one week).
  4. Learn about a form of pollution (air, light, or climate change) AND find out how you can help (research air pollution AND share your top 5 ways people can help, research light pollution AND share your top 5 ways people can help, OR Chart Earth’s climate changes each week for 8 weeks on NASA’s website).
  5. Create an art piece around sky and all you have learned (mobile of planets, sky painting, constellation mural/map, series of photos of the changing sky) OR gather/write stories about the sky and what you have learned (collect 5 tales about the sky and share them, OR write your own story of the northern and southern lights).
