Released in 2011. Retired in 2022.
My Own Budget replaced Philanthropist as the new Year 2 Financial Literacy Badge.

Requirements

Five steps are needed to complete this badge:

  1. Learn what every person needs
  2. Investigate how to help people who are hungry
  3. Find out how to help people who need clothing
  4. Know how to help in times of emergency
  5. Think—and act—like a philanthropist

How to Earn

Ways to earn as a Troop or an Individual

Our Summary of the GSUSA booklet activity choices

  1. Learn what needs are (list, poster, discuss).
  2. Learn why people go hungry and who helps them (research, field trip, guest speaker).
  3. Learn why people don’t have clothes and who helps them (research, tour of secondhand shop, guest speaker).
  4. Learn how people get help after a disaster or emergency (field trip to an organization that helps, guest speaker, research).
  5. Review all the ways you can help people with needs and help with one (donate money, food, clothes).
