What is this badge about?

Learn how to canoe, kayak, or stand up paddleboard safely.

Our Summary* of requirements:

  1. Learn about three paddle sports (canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding (SUP)) from a trusted source (sporting goods store, paddling expert at camp, older scouts with experience of all three, OR paddling expert at community center/rec facility).
  2. Learn water safety rules from a trusted source (take water safety course, practice at camp, OR practice with certified paddling instructor).
  3. Learn how to paddle efficiently, with the least amount of strain on your body from a trusted source (take water safety course, practice at camp, OR practice with certified paddling instructor).
  4. Take a short trip on the water for an hour or less with a trusted supervisor (local group/community center, camp, OR certified instructor).
  5. After the short trip, challenge yourself with a new activity (paddle to a new shoreline or marina, paddle across a lake/river/pier to pier, camp overnight where you paddle, OR join a paddle race).
