2011 GS Way Badges – Multi Level

Yes – 2011 Is the current GSUSA badge

These are simply suggestions and may take some creativity and extra steps to earn all the badges in various levels.

A Multi-Level Troop will need to do extra steps when earning different badges across levels. It depends on how many requirements overlap. Some will only have one or two matching requirements.

GSUSA has an Award Log for each level with a comparison table for all badges in similar themes. Not all badges in the same theme have correlating requirements – you basically have to earn two separate badges. We recommend a Fun Patch in that case.

Badges with correlating requirements means you can do an activity that counts towards different badges in the different levels.

All Require Singing

Cadette: Lead other scouts in a song (at a songfest, teach an international song, OR help Brownies learn a new song).
Senior: Sing a new Girl Scout song you create together OR teach younger Girl Scouts some songs (three songs from cultures around the world OR a traditional song you learned from Girl Scout alumnae).
Ambassador: Use singing to convey a message to an audience (Use a song to inspire others to action about a cause you are passionate about, teach new songs that promote the Girl Scout spirit to younger Girl Scouts at a songfest, OR host an event where Girl Scout alumnae sing older songs that current Girl Scouts may not know).

Recommendation: Split into three groups to each find a song from another cultures around the world that inspires others to action about a cause they are passionate about. Each group teaches the other two groups their song.

All Require Celebrating

Cadette: Celebrate Girl Scout Week (The week of March 12 is Girl Scout Week) in one way (take an action to show courage, research an issue and advocate for it, OR do a project to honor the character of Girl Scouts).
Senior: Plan and hold a Scout’s Own OR teach younger scouts (help them earn their Girl Scout Way badge OR help them bridge up to the next level).
Ambassador: Celebrate World Thinking Day (host an event that honors local women who exemplify the Girl Scout Law for younger scouts to attend, make World Thinking Day cards for a specific cause, OR help younger scouts earn the World Thinking Day award).

Recommendation: Take an action to show courage by planning and holding a Scout’s Own where you make World Thinking Day cards for a specific cause.

All Require Analyzing the Girl Scout Law

Cadette: Use the Girl Scout Law to grow closer with other scouts (throw a community celebration, spotlight a local heroine, or team up with other women/scouts to tackle an issue).
Senior: Examine the Girl Scout Law in one way (write a commitment statement for each line of the Girl Scout Law, write an example you’ve seen or done for each line of the Girl Scout Law, OR focus on one line and invite a guest speaker to your troop that exemplifies that line of the Girl Scout Law).
Ambassador: Host a group panel or event to guide a discussion (how you might use the Girl Scout Law to make a difference in the issue, OR to encourage girls to consider how geology, civil and environmental engineering, product innovation, nanotechnology, ethnobiology, and other fields could help them share the Girl Scout Law through their careers), OR Learn all about a female role model’s job in an interview.

Recommendation: Focus on one line and spotlight a local heroine by inviting a guest speaker to your troop that exemplifies that line of the Girl Scout Law. Make sure you learn all about the female role model’s job in an interview.

All Require Making the World a Better Place

Cadette: Make camp or an outdoor space better (clean up a trail, help clear an invasive species, OR help with three general maintenance tasks).
Senior: Protect or promote the environment in one way (interview parks and rec department about possible TAP projects your troop can do, work with a community group to create a project that beautifies the environment, OR do a concrete act of kindness each day for one week to leave the “human” environment around you better).
Ambassador: Create a list of 10 ideas on a specific issue (Choose a civic issue that you want to affect throughout your life, and explore ways to make government a better place, an environmental issue that you want to affect throughout your life, and explore ways to make the environment a better place, OR a social issue that you want to affect throughout your life, and explore ways to improve the systems that create or contribute to the issue).

Recommendation: Protect or promote the environment by creating a list of 10 ideas on a specific issue where you can do a concrete act (during a campout or one each day at home) for 10 days to make a camp or outdoor space better.

All Require Exploring Girl Scout Traditions

Cadette: Learn about a Girl Scout Tradition (make a list of 5 traditions, learn how to say the Promise and Law in another language, OR learn about the local history of Girl Scouts).
Senior: Celebrate Girl Scout Traditions in one way (research biographies of three famous Girl Scouts, talk to alumnae AND take one action to help introduce new members to GSUSA, OR watch the Golden Eaglet AND make a three-minute film or slideshow to share your ideas about why Girl Scout traditions are important).
Ambassador: Teach younger Girl Scouts a tradition (one that exemplified your Girl Scout experience, OR starting a new tradition of your own), OR help a younger troop earn their Girl Scout Way badge or Daisy Petals.

Recommendation: Research biographies of three local famous Girl Scouts AND starting a new tradition of your own
