Released in 2011 and is considered part of the 2011 Girl’s Guide. The Senior page has information on when all badges were released.

Can be earned as a single badge or as part of the Senior Outdoor Journey set. (Journeys retire in Oct 2026.)

What is this badge about?

Learn a new camp skill, make food, and go camping.

Our Summary* of requirements:

  1. Review the Before You Start This Badge box, speak to an expert (camping expert, sporting goods/outdoor retail store employee, OR camp ranger) about any special gear you’ll need, AND pick a location to camp with an adventure activity.
  2. Make a packing list (add any additional items for your adventure activity to your packing lists OR compare gear to see what’s missing, what can be shared, and clean or repair any items) OR practice carrying your pack with a full load 15 minutes each day while wearing your camping outfit and boots until you can do a full hour with ease.
  3. Make food using a stove designed for backpacking (canister stove, wood-burning stove, table stove, buddy burner, OR vagabond stove) OR prepare snacks, water, and food for your adventure activity.
  4. Learn a new camp skill and use it at camp (three essential knots that can be used around camp, research weather and weather disasters, OR hike with a topographical map using a compass to navigate).
  5. Have fun while camping (keep a journal, teach Leave No Trace at camp, OR write a poem, song, or story about a native feature you find at camp).
