Items Needed:
- 7 blank index cards (or pieces of a paper cut into 4) per scout
- Crayons, pencils, or markers
- Optional: clipboards or writing surface
Instructions (Estimated Time: 10–15 minutes):
- Create the Flashcards (5–6 minutes)
- Each scout makes 7 simple cards:
- On one side: draw an item clearly enough for someone to guess
- On the other side: write the item’s name (if they can) and add N for need or W for want
- Scouts may include their name if they want to keep their cards
- Items can be groceries, clothes, school supplies, or fun extras. Whatever they think of!
- Each scout makes 7 simple cards:
- Partner & Guess (5–6 minutes)
- Scouts pair up.
- One scout shows their flashcards (drawing side only) while the partner:
- Tries to guess what each item is
- Decides if it’s a Need or a Want
- Then they switch roles and repeat.
- Quick Wrap-Up (2–3 minutes)
- As a group, invite a few scouts to share:
- One item they guessed correctly
- An example of a need and a want they saw
- Collect the cards or let scouts take them home
