Username Interview

Fulfills Step 1 of GSUSA Junior Cybersecurity Basics badge requirements.

Items Needed

  • Pens or pencils
  • Index cards
  • Painter’s tape

Instructions

  1. Provide each scout with two index cards, tape, and a pen or pencil.
  2. Pair up the scouts. Each pair has one minute to interview each other about non-private topics, such as favorite animals, TV shows, colors, books, or sports.
  3. After the interviews, each scout writes a suggested username for their teammate on an index card and tapes it to their teammate’s back. Ensure the usernames do not contain any personal information.
  4. Scouts switch partners three times, using the same index card to write a new username after each interview. By the end, each scout will have three usernames on their card.
  5. Scouts remove the index cards from their backs and look at the usernames suggested for them. They choose their favorite and share it with the group.
  6. Discuss whether the chosen usernames reveal any personal or private information. Emphasize the importance of keeping usernames safe and not sharing personal details that could identify them.
