Items Needed

Instructions

  1. Divide the scouts into small groups. Assign each group a different scenario. (Use printed cards with the scenarios to make distribution and organization easier or make up your own.)
  2. Have one group act out their scenario in front of the troop.
  3. The rest of the troop observes and then discusses whether the action demonstrated is truthful or deceptive.
  4. Repeat the activity with different groups and scenarios as needed to prompt further discussions.

Scenario ideas:

  • You are hungry and decide to eat a slice of cake. You see your dad looking at the cake with the missing slice. You don’t say anything.
  • You accidentally dropped a glass on the floor. Your mum asks you who did it. You tell her your brother did it.
  • You take some sweets from a shop without paying for them.
  • You decide to watch TV instead of doing your homework. Your sister asks you if you have done your homework. You say you still need to finish your homework.
  • Your mum asks you if you’re asleep. You are reading under your blanket. You don’t reply.
  • Your sister drew on the walls and told your mum you did it.
  • You want to go to the cinema but know that you need to do your homework first. You tell your mum you have already finished your homework.
  • Another child on the playground is using the swing when you want it. You talk and tease them until they run away, and you can use the swing.
  • You saw a rabbit on your way to school. When you tell your classmates you tell them that the rabbit was friendly and soft to pet.
  • Your friend wants to play but you don’t feel like it. You tell them you have to do something else when you know you don’t.
  • A girl in your class got glasses and you tell others how she ran into doors before she got them.
  • You chew with your mouth open at the dinner table and when your mom asks who is smacking their lips you stay silent.
  • The teacher asks everyone to finish their work so the class can go to art. You hide your unfinished worksheet and tell your teacher you are ready to go.
  • You found a $20 bill on the floor and decided to keep it instead of looking for a possible owner.
  • A classmate says hello but you don’t feel like talking and ignore them.
  • You say thank you when your grandma gives you a gift that isn’t your favorite.
  • You ask your sister if they would like to do something before you tell her to do the activity you want.
  • You want to make sure you get your favorite flavor. The teachers says to stay in line. You sneak ahead of the line and grab it first before anyone can try to get it.
