The Mask is a Lie

Fulfills Step 1 of GSUSA Daisy Petal – Honest and Fair badge requirements.

Items Needed

  • Blank masks (paper or plastic)
  • Decorating supplies (markers, paint, stickers, etc.)
  • Optional: Craft tools (glue, scissors, glitter)

Instructions

  1. Make or Decorate Masks – Provide each scout with a blank mask and decorating supplies. Encourage them to design their mask however they like.
  2. Explain the Concept – Discuss how the mask symbolizes a lie—hiding our true selves. When we wear the mask, we’re pretending to be someone we’re not. Taking off the mask represents being honest and authentic.
  3. Reflection – Encourage scouts to remove their masks at the end and share how it feels to be their true, honest selves.
