Survey Question Feedback

Items Needed:

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Scout’s prototype, app, or written idea (from a previous activity)

Instructions (Total Time: 35–45 minutes):

  1. Write Your Survey Questions (10–12 minutes)
    • Scouts write 3–5 open-ended questions that help them learn what others think about their creation
    • Sample question ideas:
      • What do you like about this idea?
      • What would you change or improve?
      • Would you use this? Why or why not?
      • Who do you think this invention is best for?
  2. Run a Survey in the Troop (15–18 minutes)
    • Scouts take turns presenting their idea to other scouts
    • They ask each scout their survey questions and write down the responses
    • Encourage them to listen for patterns or surprising answers
  3. Review Your Feedback (7–10 minutes)
    • Scouts study the answers they received
    • They look for ideas that could make their product stronger, more useful, or more interesting
  4. Prepare to Survey People Outside the Troop (2–3 minutes)
    • Scouts choose 2–3 people they could ask at home, school, or in the community
    • They write down who they’ll ask and decide how they’ll collect feedback (in person, on paper, or digitally)
