Starting Over Prototype

Items Needed:

  • Craft materials for building prototypes (cardboard, tape, glue, scissors, markers, recycled items, etc.)
  • Paper and pencils for sketching ideas
  • Feedback notes or Getting Feedback handout (from a previous activity)
  • (Optional) Use SCAMPER Method by GSUSA for ideas

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 25–30 minutes):

  • Think About Your Feedback (3–4 minutes)
    • Scouts read over or remember the feedback they received from others.
    • They decide if they want to start over with a new idea or make big changes to their original one.
  • Create a New Prototype (15–18 minutes)
    • Scouts design and build a completely new prototype using craft materials.
    • Their new idea might include a different purpose, a new feature, or a brand-new design.
  • Show and Tell (4–5 minutes)
    • Scouts share their new prototype with a buddy or the group.
    • They explain what they changed and how the new version works.
  • Reflect (3–4 minutes)
    • Scouts talk or draw about what inspired their new idea.
    • They describe how the changes made their idea better or more exciting.
