Solo Wants and Needs Sort

Items Needed:

  • Paper and pencil
  • Crayons or markers (optional)

Instructions (Estimated Time: 8–10 minutes):

  1. Make a List or Draw (3–5 minutes)
    • Scouts think of 10 things they use or see every day.
    • They write or draw each one on their paper. Examples: shoes, tablet, sandwich, water, stuffed animal, toothbrush. (Or use the list below)
  2. Label Wants or Needs (3–4 minutes)
    • Next to each item, scouts write:
      • N if it’s a need (keeps them healthy and safe)
      • W if it’s a want (something fun or extra)
      • Leave it blank if they’re not sure yet
  3. Reflect (1–2 minutes)
    • Scouts review their list and answer:
      • Did they notice any surprises?
      • Which items were easy to label?
      • Were any tricky?
