Info Needed: Scouts learn how physical activity can be fun and creative, especially with plenty of space to move. They explore nature and movement by pretending to help in a garden, noticing what they feel and see as they work.
Items Needed:
- (Optional) Small shovel or spoon
- (Optional) Cup of water or watering can
- Paper and crayon or pencil
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–20 min):
- Go outside and pretend to garden (10–12 min)
- Scout chooses three garden movements to try. If they have tools, they can use them; if not, they can pretend.
- Examples: Digging holes, Pulling weeds, and Watering plants
- Encourage them to look around and notice things like sun, wind, bugs, or leaves.
- (Optional) Indoor variation:
- Scout finds a space to pretend they’re in a garden.
- They do the same three movements without real tools.
- (Optional) Imagine windows are sunshine and indoor plants are the garden.
- Scout chooses three garden movements to try. If they have tools, they can use them; if not, they can pretend.
- Draw and reflect (5–8 min)
- Scout draws a picture of themselves helping in a garden.
- They think about what their body did: bending, stretching, reaching.
- (Optional) Ask them to name one thing they saw, felt, or imagined.
