Small Movement Brainstorm

Activity Description: Scouts brainstorm and try out small body movements to explore how tiny actions help them express, create, and play.

Info Needed: Scouts practice using their full bodies and/or fine motor skills. They explore how small movements are part of everyday fun and use small muscles in playful ways to notice how tiny actions help them create, feel, and express.

Items Needed:

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 35–45 min):

  1. Talk about small movements (5–6 min)
    • Explain that small movements use hands, toes, fingers, face, and small muscle groups. Ask scouts to name tiny actions they do every day.
  2. Make a movement list (6–8 min)
    • Write down small movement ideas shared by scouts.
    • Examples: blinking, drawing shapes, wiggling toes, clapping, tapping feet, sticking out tongue.
    • Aim for at least 10 movement ideas on the list.
  3. Try out the movements (15–18 min)
    • Scouts choose three movements from the list (or create their own).
    • Try each one together and notice how the body feels when doing smaller motions.
    • Encourage gentle, playful repetition.
  4. Reflect on body use (5–7 min)
    • Talk about when scouts use small movements (e.g., drawing, picking up snacks, brushing teeth). Ask which movement was the most fun or surprising to try.
