Scout Ghost Light Story

Activity Description: Scouts listen to a story and light up ghost decorations to show how their actions reflect scout character.

Info Needed: Scouts show their character through kindness, bravery, sharing, and teamwork. Using glowing ghost decorations helps scouts connect their actions to the story in a visual and meaningful way.

Items Needed:

  • LED tealight candles (one per scout)
    • (Optional) Pre-made coffee filter ghosts placed over each tealight. Leaders can make ghosts ahead of time with or without color.
  • Printed copy of the Scout Ghost story
  • (Optional) Dim lighting or covered space to enhance glow

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–20 min):

  1. Set up the space for storytelling (3–5 min)
    • Place one tealight or ghost decoration in front of each scout.
    • Dim the lights or gather in a cozy area to make the glow more visible.
  2. Read the Scout Ghost story aloud (5–7 min)
    • Pause after each part of the story to give scouts time to light their ghost if they’ve done something similar.
  3. Reflect as a troop (5–8 min)
    • After the story, look around at the glowing ghosts.
    • Talk about how each light shows the spirit of a scout.
    • Remind scouts that their actions help light the way for others.

Scout Ghost Story

Long ago, in the quiet woods where scouts first gathered, there lived a group of gentle ghosts. Not scary ghosts! No, these were Scout Ghosts, born from kindness, courage, and laughter. But they were invisible… until someone showed the spirit of a true scout.

The first ghost appeared when a scout helped a friend who had fallen. (Cue: “If you’ve ever helped someone, light your ghost now.”)

The second ghost glowed when a scout stood up for what was right, even when it was hard. (Cue: “If you’ve ever been brave, light your ghost now.”)

The third ghost shimmered when a scout shared their snack with someone who had none. (Cue: “If you’ve ever shared something, light your ghost now.”)

The fourth ghost danced when a scout made someone laugh on a hard day. (Cue: “If you’ve ever made someone smile, light your ghost now.”)

The fifth ghost floated when a scout cleaned up, even when no one was watching. (Cue: “If you’ve ever done the right thing quietly, light your ghost now.”)

And the sixth ghost (the brightest of all) appeared when scouts worked together, each one lighting the way for the next. (Cue: “If you’re ready to be part of this glowing team, light your ghost now.”)

Look around. These ghosts remind us that every scout carries a light. When we show our character, the world glows a little brighter.
