Rainbow Peeps

Compare Peeps to Skittles and see what colors they can make.

Items Needed:

  • Marshmallow Peeps (various colors)
  • Skittles (various colors)
  • White dinner plates or shallow trays
  • Warm water
  • Measuring cup
  • Timer

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Setup:
    • Place a few Peeps of different colors in a circle on one plate, spaced slightly apart.
    • On a separate plate, arrange Skittles in a circle, spaced evenly.
  2. Add Water:
    • Carefully pour warm water onto the center of each plate, enough to cover the bottom but not submerge the candies completely.
  3. Observe the Diffusion:
    • Watch as the colors from the Peeps and Skittles start to diffuse into the water. Use the timer to record how long it takes for the colors to spread outward from each candy.
  4. Compare Results:
    • Observe the differences between how the Peeps and Skittles dissolve and release their color. Discuss which candy diffuses faster and why that might happen.
  5. Experiment Further:
    • Try using cooler water or different placements of the candies to see how these variables affect the diffusion.
