Quick Fire Book Improvement

Activity Description: Scouts reflect on a book they made and share ideas to improve, customize, or expand it.

Info Needed: Every creative project can be improved or adapted for different people or uses. You can always think of how to make an item better, how to package or share it, and what they might do differently next time.

Items Needed:

  • One book made by each scout
  • (Optional) A second book if scouts completed more than one
  • (Optional) Pencil and paper for jotting down ideas

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 10–15 min):

  1. Think about your book (1–2 min)
    • Scouts take a quiet moment to look at their book and think about what they might change or improve.
  2. Share one improvement idea (3–7 min)
    • Go around the room one by one. Each scout gives a quick 30-second answer about what they would do differently next time. Ideas can include:
      • Changing the layout or materials
      • Adding more pages or sections
      • Customizing it for a specific person
  3. Brainstorm other versions (3–4 min)
    • Scouts imagine how their book could become part of a set or series.
    • What other types of books could they make?
      • A matching calendar
      • A themed journal
      • A book for a different person or purpose
