Positive Body Part Talk

Fulfills Step 4 of GSUSA Uniquely Us badge requirements.

Info Needed: Scouts explore how to speak kindly about their bodies. They name something they appreciate about one body part. They hear what others like about themselves too.

Items Needed:

  • One index card per scout with a body part written on each
  • Open space to sit or stand in a circle

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 minutes):

  1. Prepare and Pass Out Cards (5–6 minutes)
    • Give each scout one index card face down so they can’t read it yet.
    • Explain that each card has a body part, and they’ll say something positive about that part on their own body.
    • (Optional) Scouts may request a different card if they’re unsure or uncomfortable with the one they have.
  2. Start the Compliment Circle (10–12 minutes)
    • Scouts form a circle.
    • One scout flips their card and reads the body part aloud.
    • They say something kind or specific about how their own body uses that part.
      • Example: “I like my hands because they help me draw.”
    • Then they gently tag or gesture to the scout on their left to go next.
    • Continue until everyone has shared.
  3. Reflect and Celebrate (5–10 minutes)
    • Scouts listen and notice the variety of things bodies can do.
    • (Optional) Share one thing they were surprised or proud to say.
    • Remind scouts that speaking kindly about yourself helps others feel brave to do the same.
