Pita Pocket Meal Trial

Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Cabin Camper badge requirements.

Items Needed:

  • Pita pockets
  • Cut-up veggies (carrots, cucumbers, peppers, etc.)
  • Deli meat (optional)
  • Hummus, shredded cheese, salsa (choose one or more)
  • Paper and pencil for brainstorming

Instructions (Total Time: 15–20 minutes):

  1. Make a Pita Pocket Meal (8–10 minutes)
    • Scouts choose ingredients to fill their pita pocket
    • Encourage mixing veggies, spreads, and cheese for flavor
    • No heating needed, just assemble and enjoy
  2. Brainstorm Other No-Cook Ideas (5–7 minutes)
    • Talk about other meals that could work well on a camping trip without cooking
    • Scouts write or draw 2–3 ideas on paper (examples: wraps, trail mix, fruit cups)
  3. Optional Cooking Tip (2–3 minutes)
    • Explain that some ingredients (like cheese and salsa) can be used in cooked meals too
    • Share that wrapping a filled pita in foil and heating it can turn it into a warm quesadilla
