Step-by-Step Instructions
Cleaning a Pet Cage
- Remove the Pet
- Place the pet in a safe, temporary space while cleaning.
- Ensure they have food, water, and a comfortable area.
- Remove Bedding & Waste
- Take out any bedding, hay, or substrate.
- Dispose of any waste, old bedding, or uneaten food.
- Wipe Down Surfaces
- Use a pet-safe cleaner or a mix of warm water and mild soap.
- Wipe cage bars, walls, and floor to remove dirt and buildup.
- Scrub stubborn stains with a soft brush or sponge if needed.
- Check for Odors
- If the cage smells strong, deep clean using a vinegar-water solution (1:1 ratio).
- Rinse thoroughly and allow the cage to dry completely.
- Replace Bedding
- Add fresh bedding, hay, or substrate as needed.
- Ensure materials are clean, dry, and safe for the pet.
- Return the Pet to the Cage
- Place the pet back in their clean home.
- Refill food and water bowls.
- Observe their behavior to ensure they feel comfortable.
Cleaning a Fish Tank
- Scrub Algae
- Use an algae scrubber or sponge to gently remove algae from the tank walls.
- Avoid harsh chemicals—use aquarium-safe cleaners or just water.
- Clean decorations and rocks to prevent algae buildup.
- Rinse Filters
- Remove the filter and rinse it with clean tank water, not tap water (chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria).
- Replace filter media as needed, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Change Water Safely
- Remove 10–25% of the water using a siphon or cup.
- Add fresh, treated water (use a water conditioner to remove chlorine).
- Ensure the new water is the same temperature as the tank to avoid stressing fish.
Cleaning a Litter Box
- Scoop Waste
- Use a litter scoop to remove solid waste and clumps.
- Dispose of waste in a sealed trash bag to reduce odors.
- Scoop at least once per day to keep the box fresh.
- Replace Litter
- Every 1–2 weeks, empty the old litter completely.
- Wash the litter box with warm water and mild soap, then dry it.
- Add fresh, clean litter, filling it to the recommended depth (about 2–3 inches).
- Clean the Box Regularly
- Wipe down the sides and edges to remove dust and residue.
- If odors persist, use baking soda or pet-safe deodorizers.
- Keep the litter box in a quiet, accessible spot where the cat feels comfortable.
