Personal Top 10 Tips

Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Junior Practice with Purpose badge requirements.

Info Needed for Badge Requirements:
Scouts create and follow a personal practice routine for one month that includes endurance, strength, and skill drills. Each part should be completed at least twice a week, in any order or combination that works best. After one month, scouts choose one way to reflect and share their progress.

Items Needed:

  • Paper (one sheet per scout)
  • Pens or pencils
  • Hard surface to write on (tables, clipboards, books)
  • Optional: laptop, tablet, or phone with internet access

Instructions (Total Estimated Time: 30 minutes):

  1. Reflect on a Challenge (5 minutes)
    • Scouts think about what has been the hardest part of earning this badge
    • They write that challenge at the bottom of their page
  2. Write an Advice Tip (3–5 minutes)
    • Scouts imagine that a friend has the same challenge and asks for advice
    • They write one helpful tip they would give
    • That becomes their first personal practice tip
  3. Create a Full List (10–12 minutes)
    • Scouts continue writing more tips that could help them remember technique, stay motivated, or reach their goal
    • Examples: “Keep breathing when stretching,” “Try again if something feels too hard,” or “Rest after big workouts”
    • Aim for a total of 10 tips on the page
  4. Share and Discuss (8–10 minutes)
    • Scouts take turns sharing a few tips from their list
    • Each scout explains why they picked a specific tip or how they plan to use it in future practice
