Peeps Diorama Challenge

  • Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Daisy Art and Design badge requirements.
  • Fulfills Step 4 of GSUSA Brownie Art and Design badge requirements.
  • Fulfills Step 2 of GSUSA Junior Art and Design badge requirements.

Similar to the Cupcake War concept – your troop can create your own diorama challenge inspired by Peeps candy.

Items Needed:

  • Base for your diorama (shoebox, cardboard box, or similar container)
  • Marshmallow Peeps (or other small figurines if you want variety)
  • Craft supplies (construction paper, markers, paint, glue, scissors)
  • Decorations (pipe cleaners, cotton balls, glitter, stickers, etc.)
  • Mini props (toothpicks, popsicle sticks, fabric scraps, etc.)
  • Optional: Printed or drawn background scenes

Instructions:

  1. Choose a Theme: Pick a creative theme for the diorama contest. All scouts in the troop should be working towards the same theme: a scene from a book, movie, historical event, or your daily life. Let your imagination run wild!
  2. Build Your Base: Use a shoebox or other container as the stage for the diorama. This will hold the scene.
  3. Create Your Scene: Arrange and decorate the Peeps (or chosen figurines) as characters in the scene. Use craft supplies and props to bring it to life!
  4. Add a Background: Create or attach a background scene to enhance the setting. It could be drawn, painted, or printed.
  5. Take a Photo: Once the diorama is complete, take a clear photo of it for the memories!
  6. Share: Provide instructions on how each scout will show off their dioramas. Will it be a verbal show and tell? Do they write up a brief description for an art gallery viewing? Will you take photos and upload it to social media for a judging contest?
  7. Judging and Prizes: Set judging criteria like creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling. Offer fun rewards or recognition for scouts.
    • Note – If you want to avoid assigning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, all scouts can be given Spotlight Awards. Just make sure all scouts agree to this judging system before the contest begins.
