Parts of a Robot

In elementary school, the 4 Primary Parts taught are usually:

  1. Mechanical Parts – the parts that make robots move.
  2. Sensors – the parts that help them know what is going on around them.
  3. Power Supply – what gives them the power move and do what they are programmed to.
  4. Controllers – computer or manual device that tells the robot what to do.

In middle and high school, the 5 Main Parts taught are usually:

  1. Controllers – the computer that uses programs or manual commands to tell the robot what to do.
  2. Sensors – parts that provide information to a robot to help it run.
  3. Housing – parts that make up the robot (body and joints) and protect the inside parts.
  4. Actuators – devices that move the robot.
  5. Effectors – parts that interact with the world, like grippers, or tools that are used, like welders.
