My Beauty Icon Bio

Fulfills Step 2 of GSUSA Outside the Mirror badge requirements.

Info Needed: Scouts should understand that being authentic means showing their real selves and celebrating what makes them unique. They will explore authenticity by imagining how their personal style, identity, and values could be admired in the future, just like the historical beauty icons they studied.

Items Needed:

  • Copies of the Beauty Icon Bio format for reference (From previous activity about Beauty Icons, or print your own from the Beauty Icon Bio page).
  • “My Beauty Icon Bio” worksheet or blank paper.
  • Pens or pencils.
  • (Optional) Art supplies for drawings or flair.
  • (Optional) Printed examples of historical bios for style reference.

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 25–30 min):

  1. Introduce the idea of becoming a future beauty icon (5–7 min).
    • Scouts reflect on what they’d want to be admired for if someone made a bio about them 50 years from now.
    • This can include appearance, style, personality, values, or how they treat others.
  2. Fill out the “My Beauty Icon Bio” worksheet (10–12 min).
    • Scouts write their icon name (can be real or imagined).
    • Fill in short sections:
      • Appearance: What feels most “them” about how they look or carry themselves.
      • Style: What they like to wear or how they express creativity.
      • Reputation: What they’re proud of in how they treat others or live life.
      • Cultural Impact: How they hope to influence the world or inspire others.
      • (Optional) Include a slogan, symbol, or color palette.
  3. (Optional) Add flair or image (5–7 min).
    • Scouts can draw a logo, selfie outline, or name banner.
    • They may write their favorite quote or future headline.
  4. (Optional) Share and celebrate (5–6 min).
    • Scouts can display their bios gallery-style or read aloud a favorite line.
    • Reflect briefly on what being authentic means in their style, voice, or choices.
