“Mini Shark Tank” Rotation

Items Needed

  • Each scout’s completed Ad Poster or prototype
  • 5 Steps to a Pitch by GSUSA (Optional – one per scout)
  • (optional, for “judges”) Feedback slips or small notepads and pencils
  • (optional) Simple table signs: “Presenters” and “Judges”

Recommended Group Size: 6–12 scouts (split into groups of 3–4)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 18-20 minutes):

1. Set the Stage: What is Shark Tank? (2–3 minutes)

  • Briefly explain: “Today you’re the entrepreneurs and the investors!”
  • Each group will take turns pitching and judging. When you’re a judge, you’ll give kind, thoughtful feedback.
  • Review the 5-Step Pitch out loud or using handouts.

2. Form Rotation Groups (1 minute)

  • Split scouts into small groups of 3–4. Each round, one scout presents while the rest become the “Panel of Supportive Sharks.”

3. Pitch Rounds Begin (12–14 minutes total)

  • Rotate within each group until every scout has presented once.
  • Each round should take no more than 3 minutes total:
    • 1 minute for the scout to deliver their pitch using their ad poster
    • 2 minutes for judges to ask one question or offer one suggestion

Tip for Judges:
Give feedback like a kind investor—try:

  • “What I loved about your idea was…”
  • “Have you thought about adding…”
  • “This could be super helpful for…”

Leader Role:
Float between groups to help with timing, keep energy high, and ensure all feedback is kind and constructive.

4. Quick Debrief (1–2 minutes)

  • Ask scouts:
    • “What was fun about being a judge?”
    • “What was exciting (or hard) about giving your pitch?”
  • Celebrate the creativity and courage on display!
