Fulfills Step 1 of GSUSA Cabin Camper badge requirements.

Items Needed

Guest speaker with camping experience
(Optional) Paper and pencil for taking notes or drawing gear ideas
(Optional) Leave No Trace handout (one per scout)
- Leave No Trace by GSUSA
- Leave No Trace (Illustrated) by GSUSA

Instructions (Total Time: 30 minutes)

Learn from a Camper (10–12 minutes)
- A guest speaker shares tips, gear advice, and fun stories from cabin camping
- Scouts listen and ask questions about what to bring, what to expect, and how to have fun
Ask Questions (10–12 minutes)
- Scouts take turns asking the camper questions like:
  - What should we pack?
  - What do you do at camp?
  - What surprised you the first time you went?
- (Optional) Scouts write or draw one new thing they learned
Respect Nature (5–6 minutes)
- Scouts read or talk about the Leave No Trace guidelines
- Discuss how to take care of the outdoors while camping
