  • Fulfills Step 4 of GSUSA Brownie Art and Design badge requirements.
  • Fulfills Step 2 of GSUSA Junior Art and Design badge requirements.

Items Needed:

  • Heavy Paper (cardstock or watercolor paper) OR Canvas
  • Artist Tape OR Masking Tape
  • Markers OR Paint (and paint supplies)

Instructions:

  • Use paper for markers and canvas for paint.
  • Put tape on a canvas from one side to the other in any direction. Keep adding tape until a there are smaller shapes made and no larger areas remain.
  • Use markers or paint to paint in the different shapes any color the scouts want. It can be one color, mixed colors, or blended colors. Fill the entire area, even if they color the tape a little.
  • Note: If painting: Lightly spray the canvas with water before painting. Use a big brush to paint. Sponge brushes make smooth textures, and bristle brushes make varied textures.
  • Wait until the marker ink/paint is dry.
  • Slowly remove the tape from the art piece. Solid white lines of the paper should now be between the colored areas, creating your art piece.
  • Note: Artist Tape is preferred for paper, although masking tape should come off cardstock if it’s a good quality tape and applied properly. If you pull the tape off too quickly, or use a low-quality tape, it could potentially tear the cardstock or leave adhesive residue behind.
