Make Cardboard Letters

Description: Scouts make large cardboard letters for younger children to explore the alphabet through hands-on play. Younger children can touch, stack, and arrange the letters to reinforce letter recognition.

Items Needed:

  • Cardboard (recycled boxes or sheets)
  • Scissors
  • Markers or paint
  • (Optional) Craft knife (adult use only)
  • (Optional) Glue or tape
  • (Optional) Decorations (stickers, yarn, foam shapes)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 25–35 min):

  1. Prepare cardboard and plan letter sizes (5–7 min)
    • Scout chooses how big each letter should be.
    • They decide whether to make the full alphabet or just a few letters.
  2. Cut out cardboard letters (10–15 min)
    • Scout draws each letter on cardboard and cuts it out.
    • (Optional) An adult may help with cutting thicker cardboard using a craft knife.
  3. Decorate the letters (10–12 min)
    • Scout colors or paints each letter.
    • (Optional) Add decorations like stickers or foam shapes.
