Info Needed for Step 3: Lines in art are like the building blocks of a picture. They help artists show shapes, movement, and feelings. Imagine drawing a happy face with a big smile. That’s using lines to show happiness! Lines can be straight, wavy, or zigzag, and each type can make the picture look different. They can make patterns. They help tell a story and make the art more interesting and fun to look at.
Items Needed:
- Drawing or painting materials (crayons, markers, pastels, paint, or your troop’s chosen medium)
- Paper for each scout
- (Optional) Objects from around the room for inspiration (e.g., toy animal, plant, backpack)
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 35 min):
- Scouts move their arms or bodies to match different line types (3 min)
- Straight, curved, zigzag, spiral, thick, thin.
- Scouts look around the space and notice different textures (3 min)
- What looks smooth, fuzzy, rough, or shiny?
- Think about how lines and colors could show those textures.
- Scouts practice making different types of lines on paper (10 min)
- Use at least three kinds.
- Fill the page with creative lines, patterns, or textures.
- Scouts create a final drawing using the lines they explored (12 min)
- Draw an object in the room, something from their imagination, or a seasonal scene.
