Items Needed:
- A copy of the 7 Leave No Trace Principles (printed or displayed for reference)
- (Optional) Trash bags for picking up litter.
Instructions:
- Start by explaining the basics of Leave No Trace. Share the checklist with the scouts.
- Take the scouts on a short walk outside the meeting space (e.g., around the building or nearby outdoor area). Use the checklist to point out examples of Leave No Trace principles in action, such as walking on durable surfaces or observing wildlife quietly. Use questions to prompt action, like: “What can we do here to follow Leave No Trace?”
- (Optional) If scouts spot litter, they can practice the “Dispose of Waste Properly” principle by picking it up.
- After the walk, gather the scouts to share what they learned and how their actions helped care for the environment. Encourage them to think of ways to use Leave No Trace principles in other places, like parks or their own neighborhoods.
