Helps explain Step 3 of GSUSA Brownie Cybersecurity Basics badge requirements.
When you want to be safe online, it takes a lot of layers to ensure you are protected. Just like if it was snowing outside, you wouldn’t want to go out in your underwear. You’d wear your clothes and a jacket, hats, gloves, scarves… lots of things to keep you safe from the cold. There are four main ways you can protect yourself online.
- Physical – You, the user, can make wise choices when using the internet and email. Guards or the user can physically protect the device.
- Networks – Software, called Firewalls, can protect communication between devices.
- Operating Systems – Most operating systems have built in anti-virus software to keep the device safe.
- Applications – Programs (Software or applications) for more anti-virus software to keep the device safe.
