Inspired Art

Activity Description: Scouts create a piece of art based on something they enjoy or imagine.

Info Needed: Scouts should understand that art can be realistic, abstract, or expressive.
They will choose a subject and create a visual piece based on it.


Items Needed:

  • Paper for each scout
  • Pencils and coloring tools (crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.)
  • (Optional) Art materials like paint, collage supplies, or sculpting materials
  • (Optional) Examples of abstract and realistic (representational) art

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 minutes):

  1. Choose an Inspiration (3–5 min)
    • Scouts think about something they enjoy, like a memory, a person, a place, or a favorite activity. They could even make art about their favorite song or show.
  2. Create an Art Piece (10–12 min)
    • Scouts use their chosen medium to make a piece of art based on their inspiration.
    • They can create abstract, realistic, or expressive art, whatever style fits their idea.
  3. (Optional) Design Challenge (5–7 min)
    • Scouts design something their subject might use or need (like gear for a sport or a bench for a park).
    • They can sketch the idea or build it if materials and time allow.
