Idea Sparks – Pick & Pitch

Items Needed:

  • A printed or projected list of 12–16 curated kid business ideas (see samples below)
  • Blank index cards or half-sheets of paper
  • Pencils, markers, or crayons
  • (Optional) Timer and bell or chime

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–25 minutes):

  1. Quick Intro (1 minute)
    • Explain: “Entrepreneurs don’t always invent something brand-new. Many start with simple ideas based on their hobbies or things people need. Today, you’ll pick a real business idea and imagine your own twist on it.”
  2. Idea Gallery Walk or Table Browse (5-10 minutes)
    • Share a collection of real business ideas sourced from kid-focused entrepreneurship websites.
    • Scouts walk around, browse, or read through the list.
    • They select one idea they like and write it down.
    • Then they add a twist: “How would you make this idea your own?”
  3. Mini Pitch Prep (2-5 minutes)
    • Scouts sketch or write 2–3 sentences answering:
      • What is the business?
      • Who is it for?
      • What makes my version unique or exciting?
  4. Lightning Round Share (5-10 minutes)
    • Scouts share their “twisted” idea with a partner or small group in 30 seconds or less.
    • Partners respond with a high-five or cheer! Then give one reason they liked and one improvement that could be added.
    • Scouts write down any changes they want to make to their original idea.
