- Brainstorm with Examples (10–12 minutes)
- Briefly explain: Canned foods are easy to use on a camping trip. Hobo stew is made by mixing different cans together into one tasty meal.
- Show or list 3–4 example mixes scouts could use as a starting point:
- Option 1: Corn, beans, and diced tomatoes
- Option 2: Mixed vegetables, potatoes, and canned chicken
- Option 3: Chili with extra beans and corn
- Option 4: Beanie weenies and diced tomatoes or tomato sauce
- Option 5: Canned baked beans and canned chili with meat
- Scouts choose one they like or mix their own combo
- Scouts plan how many cans they would need to feed everyone at a campout.
- Decide if any side dishes that need to be included.
- (Optional) Taste-test a Camp Meal (10–12 minutes)
- If a microwave is available, simply use the canned goods you brought and stir in a bowl and heat in a microwave to taste test their choice.
