Hobby Show and Tell

Activity Description: Scouts share a hobby they’ve explored and show how it uses movement, coordination, or expression.

  • Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Me Time badge requirements.

Info Needed: Scouts reflect on how their bodies help them try new things. They share a hobby they explored independently and show how it involves movement, coordination, or expression.

Items Needed:

  • Hobby-related items brought by scouts (optional: artwork, gear, instruments, props)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 minutes):

  1. Get Ready to Share (3–5 minutes)
    • Scout prepares any items they brought for their hobby demonstration.
    • If a scout didn’t get to try a hobby, they choose one to describe instead.
  2. Present Hobbies (12–15 minutes)
    • Each scout takes a turn showing or describing their chosen hobby.
      • Examples: demonstrate a stretch or skill, show a creation, act out a motion, or sing a short song.
      • Others applaud each presentation to encourage effort and creativity.
  3. Reflect on the Experience (5–7 minutes)
    • Scouts talk about how their body helped them learn or practice their hobby.
      • Optional prompts: What body parts did you use? How did movement make it fun or challenging?
    • Scouts share whether they want to keep practicing their hobby.
  4. Wrap-Up (3–4 minutes)
    • Scouts name one way trying something new can help their body and brain grow.
    • Optional: draw or list another hobby they’d like to try and how their body would help.
