The “Help Harry” activity involves building a perch for Harry, a puffball with googly eyes, using teamwork and creativity. Here’s a simplified version:

Items Needed

  • Puffball with googly eyes (Harry)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Aluminum foil
  • Muffin liners
  • Index cards
  • Masking tape
  • Optional: popsicle sticks, paper clips, yarn, or small paper cups

Instructions

  1. Divide scouts into teams and give each team a set of materials.
  2. Explain that the goal is to build a perch for Harry as high as possible without putting him at risk.
  3. Teams strategize for 5 minutes, then have 15 minutes to build the perch.
  4. Test the perch by placing Harry on it and checking its stability.
  5. Allow 5 minutes for teams to make modifications if needed.
  6. Wrap up by discussing teamwork and how everyone contributed to the activity.
