Guard Your ID

Info Needed for badge requirements: Personally Identifiable Information (PII) includes details like your name, birthday, address, email, phone number, or password—anything that identifies you. Sharing PII online can lead to risks like hacking or identity theft. To stay safe: Don’t share PII with strangers online. Even small details, like your favorite color, can reveal more about you when combined with other information. Always think carefully about what you share and how much you share.

Items Needed

  • Bowl or box to hold folded papers or index cards.
  • Paper or index cards for each scout.
  • Pen or pencil for each scout.

Instructions

  1. Scouts write down 10 facts about themselves, keeping their lists private.
  2. Facts can include favorite things (e.g., color, food, song, book, hobby) or details about their life (e.g., where they were born, number of siblings, or street name). Remind scouts not to include overly personal information or write their name on the paper.
  3. Scouts fold their papers or cards and place them in the bowl or box.
  4. One scout randomly picks a list and reads the facts aloud, one by one. The group guesses whose list it might be.
  5. Repeat until all the lists have been read and guessed.
  6. Talk about how easy or hard it was to identify each other. Discuss which clues were “giveaways” and which were less helpful. Ask how scouts would rewrite their facts if they didn’t want to be identified.
